Category: Let's talk
Hello all,
After receiving some encouragement from a friend, whose user information I will not disclose here, I have decided to begin a thread of items people are most thankful for; consequently, this list should lead up to Thanksgiving and beyond! However, the number one rule is that no drama or arguments can exist. This is just a place to express our deepest and most positive thoughts.
Here are a couple of things I am thankful for:
1. I am thankful that I live in the greatest nation in the world, the United States, and that I have readily available resources such as assistive technology, which allows me to be an invaluable
member of society. Also, I can read books, participate in most forms of discussion, as well as play specifically designed audio games.
2. Since many individuals are unable to afford college without undue financial burdens such as accumulating large amounts of student loans that have to be repaid, I am blessed with an amazing, understanding, and sympathetic rehabilitation counselor who understands that while college is difficult to not give up.
3. I am blessed to even have the ability to attend a university, even if some of the rules seem stupid or quite strict.
4. Even though every family has drama to contend with, I am thankful that my family is loving, supportive, and exciting to be around. We may scream and quarrel with each other from time to time, but one thing I can truly say is that when my parents are deceased, there will be an empty void in my life that no one can fill.
5. I am thankful that I have a couple of genuine friends--ones who will never forsake me but instead will offer advice when appropriate.
6. I am thankful for being able to travel somewhat independently in spite of my disabilities.
7. I am thankful for a God who always loves me no matter if and when I screw up.
8. I am thankful for mistakes because without them, I would not have learned valuable lessons.
9. At least 3 times per week, I am thankful for the oppportunity to volunteer my time to those who are less fortunate than me.
10. Finally, I am thankful for my medication, as it keeps my mood and emotions stable.
What are you thankful for?
Very few things. I work for what I have, and so am not thankful for them. Thankfulness involves pacifity, as if something was given to you. I have very few things that were given to me without me having to work, so I'm not thankful for much. Happy I have a lot of things, but that's not the same thing.
I really like this and will post more later when i have more time... Like after work...
I am thankful most of all for my amazing little boy and the awesome young man he is becoming. I am thankful that my mom was able to retire and move closer to us 2 years ago. We get to spend allot of time together now witch I love because she is one of my best friends. I am thankful to be married to a man who is a good father and excellent provider. I am thankful that I live in a beautiful home in a nice neighborhood. I am not thankful for the lack of transportation. lol I am thankful that my son is able to attend one of the highest ranked schools in the state of Texas and that he is blossoming there.
I am thankful for the opportunities that are before me occupationally. I am thankful for adaptive technology that will hopefully continue to develop and open more doors.
I could go on and on but that's good for now because I am about to be thankful for the coffee that is about to be in my cup.
I am thankful each day I wake, because I feel blessed to be able to continue, grow, love, laugh, and enjoy life.
If I put all that in one bag it covers all the rest. Life and God is good.
For a certain Chick, and a certain daughter of mine.
For the upcoming freedom of movement that returning to life in the city will bring.
In no particular order:
I am thankful for my wife, who puts up with all my little quirks with a smile and a laugh, but whom genuinely thinks I'm pretty alright. I'm thankful too for my new little daughter, for the chance I have to pass on all I know and believe, that she may grow up in a loving home full of laughter and wisdom - always assuming I am wise.
I am thankful for my job during a time of economic turbulance, in a city where visual impairment is considered by most employers, a hinderence.
I am thankful for my talents of writing and music, the former which I nurture daily, and the latter which is slowly poking out of its shell.
I am thankful for good books, music, and Video games with stories to inspire my creativity.
I'm thankful for my home, that it is a place I can afford, in a neighborhood where transit is accessible.
I am thankful for clean water and air, for the food on my plate, the money in my bank and the laws that prohibit smoking in many establishments.
I am thankful for sexual and emotional intimacy with the woman I love.
I am grateful that, though university is expensive, I have managed to stay completely out of debt while attending, even though it's taken me much longer to get through my degree. And I'm thankful for government assistance, which held me up while I attended school, and gave me the opportunity to volunteer to gain experience.
I am thankful for all the people who took this post seriously, rather than dropping a class A deuce on it for shits and giggles.
And I am thankful for the Gospel, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which have done a great job explaining all the dozens of questions I've had about Christianity in a manner which, to me, makes perfect sense.
All great posts! Keep it up!
I'm thankful for being able to whack off.
things i'm thankful for will take a huge amount of space. so i'll limit my list and your patience to the most obvious ones.
1. i'm thankful that my husband and I were able to move to the northwest of the us. it's the place I should have resided all mly life.
2. as a grandma i'm thankful that my kids are both wonderful parents who are raising their children in the ways they should go.
3. friends are a wonderful blessing. i'm greatful for the technology that enables me to talk with them regularly.
4. to have the money to so far retire comfortably. I've worked since age 12 and it's great not to unless I want to.
5. good health. highly unappreciated unless and until it is gone.
6. my church family.
7. my husband. how he puts up with me is a mystery. he's the smartest, most patient, and kindest person I know.
like I said I could go on forever. hope you enjoy the read.
I am quite impressed by this topic. I second so many of these and agree with the poster who says they are glad no one has bashed it so far, or along those lines...
I am greatful for loads of things.
My dog who I love so much,
my friends, family and people in my life whoGod puts them there for many reasons, even if it is for bad things to build me up.
for a job that makes it possible for me to do so much I haven't been able to do before,
for my health, even though its not the best but so could be worse,
My mind and intelegence, along with my commen since and maturity.
technology
and the ability to up and move for a better life if I desire to
The fearlessness to take chances and the openess to make friends
and so many more things
A facebook friend inspired me so I've got to add this. I'm thankful for the years I was able to work as part of a Guide Dog team. I'm thankful for my dogs, the school from which they came, the people who put so much love and work into raising and training them, the wonderful adventures we had, the independence and confidence they fostered, but most of all I am thankful for the bond I had with each furry boy. I miss them both so must now be content to be thankful for the memories that I will always have.
i keep a thankful journal. there are pages of things i am thankful for, alongside people and others. in no particular order.
i am thankful for my dog, mobility, coffee, friends, walks, mother earth, dancing, laughing, nbeers, weed, meds, snacks, tech, sex, love, heartbreak and heartache, rude people, slackers, songs, god....and so many more. ty for creating this topic. kudos bro.
Thankfullness doesn't mean I'm passive about it. It's basically gratitude for the luck and good fortune with which I've been favoured.
In no particular order:
1. I'm thankful to have a good family. Llike all families it's got its dark side and its difficult bits, but there are few people I'd want in my corner more than my family in a crisis.
2. I'm thankful for the place I'm living...the country, the city, the planet itself, even to some extent the political and financial structures that keep me from starving and living on the street.
3. I'm thankful for the way my parents raised me. Independence and self-awareness were stressed in my household and I've mostly been able to take those lessons to heart. Were it not for two great parents who did the best they could with what life tossed into their laps, I doubt I'd be where I am today.
4. I'm grateful for the people, past and present, who have been with me and who have taught me, through various means, what it means to be a good person and a good friend.
5. I'm grateful to have been loved, and to be loved still.
6. I am thankful beyond my ability to tell for the opportunity to share someone else's life in the most complete and meaningful way of which we are capable. I have been given this gift, and many others, by a very special woman, and I will do my best to appreciate her for what she has done, and continues to do.
On the subject of dog guides, I miss mine very much.
I'm thankful that I live in the greatest nation in the world.
We don't celebrate thanks giving here and though I love the idea of it, we should learn to be thankful every day.
I'm thankful that I have a good job - so many people especially those with disabilities find it so hard to get work.
Very thankful for my friends and family and my lovely guide dog.
Thankful for my partner who thinks the world of me and is always there to support me especially through my illness when I feel like just giving up sometimes.
There's a lot really.
There is one thing that i am thankful for. I am thankful to have found the realization that everything I say or do is what shapes everything in my life. It is my personality that determines the people who choose to interact with me. It is my rough family history that taught me right from wrong. It is the hard work, patience, effort, and decisions I make that determine the outcome of my grades in college, relationships, health, and so many other things. Blaming gets you no where, but integrity is part of the ongoing lessons learned in life.
the things I have, are things I've worked hard to get. so, similarly to Cody, I'm happy to have them, but that's very different than thankfulness for said things.
Since I wasn't born with the skills I have to be independent and work for what I have, here's my list. I am thankful to my grandmother, who raised me in my most tender years and tought me most of the things I know, from walking to expressing myself to being a strong and independent young woman. For having a little brother who has brought me many joys in my life, and though I unfortunately don't have a chance to see him, I love him to pieces. For having tough, yet loving teachers over the years. For my few genuine friends. For my music teachers. For all the composers of beautiful music. For my abillitty to connect with people. For my new family I've formed with a sweet, loving and honest young man whom I've grown to love over the years. I am greatful for having him in my life, for his genuine love, his wisdom, for putting up with me, for all he's given me without expecting anything. And even though we've been very good friends and it has been difficult, we finally made it this far. I am greatful to all who've been a port of making my life as happy and satisfying as possible.
what? skills and being thankful are two different things. I don't follow that logic really.
ah well, whatevs.
I'm thankful for the ability to turn public quicknotes off.
I'm thankful for family, friends, good music, good food, Dr. Pepper and soft fur.
Let's just hope you didn't find the soft fur in your doctor pepper...
Nope. It was attached to the kitty.
So I, too, have had to work very hard for lots of things in my life, but I am still thankful for the opportunity such hard work has given me, as well as the lessons and experiences I have gained from such hard work. I am also thankful for a fantastic, loving family, a wonderful guide dog, mostly good health, great friends, the opportunity to attend a private university which has opened many doors for me, and a loving boyfriend. I understand Cody and Chelsea's logic about thankfulness versus happiness, but I personally do not feel that way. Perhaps it is my religious persuasion, and that is where our difference is, which would make sense. But I feel blessed, fortunate, thankful every day for these things, even those which are a product of my own hard work and dedication.
You're not alone in feeling that way, and it's not just about religion. I'm not religious at all but I still understand the difference between things you earned for yourself and things that you had the good fortune to get. It is easy to say: "I'm not thankful because I earn my own money, I learned my own skills" etc. but I don't think many of us can say that we deserve every bit of good luck we receive. One does not have to look up and thank God to be grateful; one only has to acknowledge that they are lucky.
Well said. :)
